
HACIENDA SAN IGNACIO TESIP
The sub-commissariat of San Ignasio Tesip is located at 19 km. apeoximately from the city of Merida, bordering to the north with Xmatkuil and to the south with Molas and Dzoyaxche. It has about 211 inhabitants.
The hacienda's name comes from
the patron saint of the community, San Ignasio de Loyola, found in a
well when the proprietor was Lic. Catarino Peniche, who was the first
known owner, nelonging later to Mr. Felipe Alonso Lara y Lara in march
0f 1931. The hacienda is kept under the possession of the Lara family
until 1952; later in september of 1977 is acquired by the architect
Miguel Angel Cervera Mangas and in 1995 by the attorney Jose Alonso
Guzman Pacheco. The people of this commissatiate was dedicated to the
scraping of henequen until the fiber-extracting plant stopped
functioning. Recently, the hacienda came under remodeling.
The traditional festivities take place from the 2nd. to the 11th. of July, celebrating the Christ of love, and from the 23rd. to the 31st of July, when they celebrate San Ignasio de Loyola or San Ignasio Tesip.
